Almost 20 years after her debut on Blue Note Records, Norah Jones has long been one of the most prominent jazz stars in the world. Now, the new album title sets the mood; ‘Till We Meet Again is supposed to help the fans stay put until the upcoming live concerts. Norah Jones is a star is like many other musicians, and just like them, she’s dying to play live in front of an audience again after long and tiring two years. Until then, the new live recording of her music has to be enough to satisfy her fans and ease their wait.
Her debut album Come Away with Me broke all records and made the unknown musician a world star. The album sold 27 million times to date, and the singer received eight Grammy awards as well as many other prizes for her work. According to a survey by Pollstar, Jones was the artist who got the most views on her live streams in 2020. Almost 12 million fans watched her living room concerts and these small solo shows from her home took place weekly and delighted an audience of millions.
First Live Album
Inspired by this, the musician has now released her first full live album. ‘Till We Meet Again contains live recordings from the years 2017 to 2019. Shows from Brazil, Argentina, the USA, France, and Italy were mastered together into a significant whole. It Was You was the first single to hit the market and after that the audience were surprised by a comprehensive cross-section of the entire career of Norah Jones. In the album, you can find pieces from the debut albums as well as from the now numerous successful singles.
But the musician also surprises her fans yet again. The highlight of the new record is a breathtaking solo performance. Jones interprets the hit Black Hole Sun by the grunge band Soundgarden. She recorded this homage to the deceased Soundgarden’s singer just five days after his passing.
A Tour in South America Served as Inspiration
In interviews, the signer stated that she misses touring very much. For fans of live music, this album can only be a small consolation, since it is Jones’ first accurate live record. She used the break without concerts to listen to recordings of her concerts of over the past eight years, but the foundations of the album were recordings from December 2019 from South America. Together with her musicians, she scoured the music archives to find concerts with a similar cast.
The result of this effort is ‘Til We Meet Again. The record contains a total of fourteen songs and has a running time of 76 minutes. Not only can you hear Norah Jones with her band but also numerous guests. Among others, the percussionist Marcelo Costa and the flautist Jorge Continentino were there in South America. The record is a gift for their fans that will help them bridge the gap until the next tour.
